Sometimes I will begin these compositions with a design in mind, other times I'll just start laying out shapes and color. After interactively seeing how the shapes and colors correspond I'll have the sense of where the piece is going. The resulting mood called for a town landscape in the evening, a bright and inviting place. I often think of how the artist Paul Klee was able to evoke such strong moods in his work using similar concepts. Working in this way gives me the freedom to explore how the arrangement of colors in relation to each other and with the shapes in the composition can create a vibrant feeling of community – and I hope you find that in this work.
